Oak trees

This tree earns its association with the word “mighty”.

Oak trees provide protective shading for houses and people, lowering energy needs for cooling homes. They improve air quality by storing carbon dioxide and exhaling oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. The leaves of an oak tree can absorb airborne pollutants as well, making them a prized feature of yards and parks alike. Oak trees are susceptible to aphids and the fungi, Anthracnose, which can seriously weaken or kill the tree. Through proper pruning and spraying for pests and diseases, oaks can withstand these attacks and continue to live up to their “mighty” namesake.
