Juniper trees

This small evergreen tree of the cypress family can be identified by their shot gray-green or blue-green needles growing in whorls of three on woody twigs. When crushed, they often smell like lemons or apples. Juniper berries are most famous for flavoring gin and have also been recently used to flavor liquors and sauces.  Junipers are vulnerable to Scales, an insect that directly targets this tree and feeds on its needles, cones, and twigs. Twig Blight and Dieback are also diseases that can occur when the fungus infects the branches. Junipers can survive these attacks if they are properly maintained through pruning and spraying.
